Theater Law

As the oldest of the performing arts, theater remains an important source of employment and enjoyment for millions of Americans. Although normally thought of in terms of its creative and artistic values, staging a play or musical involves legal issues and obligations. This has given rise to a body of law known as “theater law.” Among the topics embodied by theater law are (1) the creative rights of playwrights; (2) the financial rights of producers and investors; (3) the employment rights of directors, actors, and crew members; and (4) the attendance rights of audiences.
